River Light’s final test of the season will be against Chicago City SC at Spartan Athletic Park at 7 p.m. Against a familiar foe, the Lights look to end their inaugural season on a high note.
River Light is coming into this match-up with a 3-1 victory against the Chicago Dutch Lions from this week. Chicago City recently drew against Sueno FC and dropped their match-up against Peoria City 4-1 last week.
With the season wrapping up, each team’s roster is starting to thin out as more athletes start to head back to their college teams for the start of their respective preseason training camps.
“Honestly, a lot of players are going back this week, so we're down to maybe 24 [players] here that are available to play on Saturday,” head coach Charlie Latshaw said. “So for some of them it's a good opportunity to get 90 minutes and that's something that maybe they haven't seen as much this summer.”
River Light took the most recent match-up against City 3-1 at their home ground. Nick Fernandez opened the scoring against Chicago City while Logan Finnegan scored himself a first half brace to take down City.
Make sure to head down to Spartan Athletic Park for River Light’s final match of the season, and the last chance to cheer on the Lights for the 2024 season.
“We don't like to drop any points against the Chicagoland teams,” Latshaw said. “So for us we'll go out there to see what we can put together and obviously we will try to compete for a win.”
